"Ontario’s Privacy Commissioner is building a strong case for the leadership of her office, and indeed for Canada, in the international privacy community. Dr. Cavoukian’s growing reputation stems from personal energy and determination, but also from a canny ability to single out and publicize threats to personal privacy that in other quarters are conveniently viewed as the price one pays for the benefits enjoyed by contemporary society. As has her federal counterpart, Canada’s Privacy Commissioner, Jennifer Stoddard, Dr. Cavoukian has served as a privacy conscience for the digital information revolution, alerting users and the IT community to the potential danger in online information sharing, preparing a seven principle roadmap to help vendors and other service providers mitigate the worst impacts on privacy that appear to be fallout from the digitization of personal information.
