Safeguarding Personal Health Information When Using Mobile Devices for Research Purposes

Summary  Recognizing the positive impact that research may have on the health and welfare of the public and on the operation of the health system, privacy legislation throughout Canada includes provisions that enable health research while simultaneously ensuring the protection of privacy of individuals whose personal information is the subject of research. The primary purpose of this paper is to assist custodians, researchers and research ethics boards in understanding and fulfilling their obligations with respect to safeguarding personal health information that is collected, used and disclosed for research purposes.
