Access by Design

Access by Design
advances the view that government-held information should be made readily available to the public. When information is easily accessible, citizens may then question the actions of their governments and participate meaningfully in policy decisions. The global movement towards Open Data is one of the truest embodiments of Access by Design. It makes machine-readable data freely and proactively available by way of portals, metadata, and search tools, for use in new and unanticipated ways.

Access by Design and Open Data Movement:
Bringing Tangible Social and Economic Value

In the lead up to International Right to Know Week, join Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner, Dr. Ann Cavoukian, and other leading experts in the field, as they discuss how Access by Design (AbD) can be operationalized through Open Data leading to pay-offs for society and business:

  • How the free and easy access to high-value government data sets can provide businesses with valuable insights
  • How open data is a catalyst for innovation that can guide decisions about the development of new products and services
