As in every other aspect of our lives, artificial intelligence (AI) is finding its way onto university and college campuses across Ontario.

Federal, provincial, and territorial information and privacy authorities met in Québec City for their annual meeting to discuss pressing concerns related to privacy and access to information. These discussions resulted in joint resolutions calling on governments to do more to protect the privacy rights of young people and workers.

Whether it’s texts, chats, photos or videos — teens have so many ways to connect online nowadays it can be hard for parents to keep up! This episode of Info Matters explores some of the ways teens are using online technologies, their approach to privacy, and how parents can help them navigate the digital world safely and ethically. The commissioner speaks with Matthew Johnson, Director of Education at MediaSmarts, Canada’s not-for-profit centre dedicated to helping children and youth develop the critical thinking skills they need to become informed digital citizens.

Info Matters kicks off its fourth season with a unique twist, handing the microphone over to Grade 7 and 8 students from Westboro Academy in Ottawa. Its mission is to help young people create a networked environment where they can participate equally, free from surveillance, and identity-based harassment.
